Lake Taupo – Think Fresh!

The Central North Island of New Zealand captures the diversity of scenery, people and experiences that make this country famous. Here you will face some of the world’s most incredible forces.

The Taupo region is full of contrasts offering you just about any outdoor experience you could ask for within easy reach. Try adrenaline-pumping water sports like rafting or kayaking, explore a valley of geysers, hot springs and mud volcanoes, try your luck at catching some Rainbow or Brown Trout or just sit back and relax while your skipper guides you through the bays of lake Taupo.

The lake itself is a magnet for trout fishing enthusiasts and feeds the Waikato River, which heads for the Tasman Sea in a series of spectacular waterfalls, including the Huka Falls. It is the largest fresh water lake in Australasia and was created by the largest known eruption of the past 5,000 years.

Don’t miss:

Wairakei – Indigenous Maori culture

For a fascinating insight into the customs and history of the Tuwharetoa people, visit Wairakei Terraces.

Here you can see a replica Maori village, treasured Maori carvings, indigenous cultural performances and enjoy a traditional Hangi feast.

Waitomo and the Waikato – Glow Worm Caves

Explore the wide-stretching labyrinth of gaping sinkholes and underground chambers.

Try out activities like abseiling and cave tubing or for those who prefer a little less action, the famous Waitomo Glow Worm Cave is an enchanting experience.

The Tongariro Crossing

Often described as the best one day walk in New Zealand the Tongariro Crossing provides an opportunity to experience some of the most scenic volcanically active areas of New Zealand’s oldest National Park.

The track runs through the Mangatepopo Valley to the saddle between Tongariro and Ngauruhoe Mountains.
It climbs to Red Crater then drops down to the vivid Emerald Lakes.

The landscape has a grandeur and strength of presence that words can't express - you have to go there to feel it.
