Wellington - not just the political capital

Visit Wellington the cultural and arts capital of New Zealand and the gateway to the South Island. The huge harbour, the narrow profile and a fresh breeze are the main characteristics of New Zealand’s capital.

See the home of the National Museum, Te Papa, at the waterfront and discover many other cultural attractions.

Explore the compact city easily by walking and soaking up the exciting atmosphere created by a dynamic café culture, funky bars and top quality restaurants.

Take a ride with the cable car to the roof of the city where you can enjoy the beautiful view. With so many options at your fingertips, take your time to slip into the groove of this amazing place.

Don't miss:

The Cultural Capital

Wellington is home to one of the nation’s key attractions, the museum of New Zealand, Te Papa Tongarewa, offering you an interactive and innovative museum experience.

Furthermore the capital is also home to:
The Royal New Zealand Ballet, The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and The National Opera.
There are also three professional theatres:
The Circa, Downstage and Bats, there is a live show every night in Wellington!

Kapiti Island – A Bird Sanctuary

Most people never get an opportunity to visit nature reserves because access to them are so difficult.

Kapiti Island is unusual because it is one of the few relatively accessible island nature reserves. Kapiti Island lies about 5km off the west coast of the southern North Island.

Here, you may observe birds that are either very rare or absent from the Mainland, such as kakariki (red-crowned parakeet), robin, bellbird, saddleback, the little spotted kiwi thrives.

Cuba Street Carnival - celebrating the diversity

It's worth trying to visit Wellington in late February/March because that's when the Cuba Street Carnival and the Fringe Festival take place.

The Cuba Street Carnival showcases a wealth of buskers, musicians, DJ’s, food stalls, craft stalls, community action booths, all celebrating the diversity that is Cuba Street.
